FOOTBALL | Benalla 8.13 – 61 v Mansfield 12.7 – 79

The game against Benalla was a scrappy affair with both teams unable to get their ball movement up and going.

We were down by 5 in the stoppage clearances in the first half. Pleasingly, we were able to flip to a +2 result by games end. This allowed us to dominate inside 50 count. The style of football we played was not as fluent as the previous week against Euroa. However, sometimes you have to win ugly.

The most promising thing over the last two weeks has been our ability to control the game in the last quarter. This is encouraging when both our games have been on the line.

However, sometimes you have to win ugly…

Andrew Browne – Senior Football Coach

Reflecting on the game we were able to tick off these three items which was the driving force behind the result. Talent alone is never enough to win a football game, rather, it takes a combination of talent and intensity. This will be a huge focus area for us going forward.

NETBALL | Benalla 33 v Mansfield 38

There is always a lot of added emotion coming into our games against Benalla, sometimes this can work in a teams favour. Benalla was able to use this fire to stay with us the whole game, dictating the flow of the game right from the start.

Our attack end struggled to work through their defensive structure, and defensively we were chasing the play.

To our credit we stuck at it…

Emily Hutchins – Senior Netball Coach

To our girls credit, we stuck at it, dominating the play in bursts. However, we allowed them to stay within arms reach, down by three points at 3 quarter time. We needed a big last term and it was amazing to see the girls fight for the win. They played the composed netball we are striving to produce consistently. To win by 5, in such a tight contest really shows the growth this team.

Moving into next weeks game we face an undefeated Shepparton United. Our focus will be on playing our structures through a strong defensive set up. And work on dictating defensively over the full court.
